THE THIN BLUE LINE: A DIFFERENT LOOK

The police have become a source of dread, rather than a source of peace and tranquility.

The Thin Blue Line original meaning:"the thin blue line holds the frontier between chaos and civilian life, between crime and the American dream"

The Thin Blue Line was intended to paint a picture of noble public servants, sworn to uphold the constitution and to serve and protect the citizens, being maimed or dying in the line of duty.

I want to give a different spin to the Thin Blue Line.  I define it as the very thin line that separates an average citizen from being killed by police either through incompetence or through willful and malicious intent to kill.

The Thin Blue Line is where a routine traffic stop can escalate in a heartbeat, to the use of deadly force and that line can be crossed without the citizen even knowing that it has been crossed and their life snuffed out before they know what hit them.

It is said that to a hammer, everything is a nail.  A hammer has only one purpose, brute force.  Police, like a hammer, have only one purpose, enforcement through brute force.

100’s of hours are spent at the gun range, practicing and honing their skills with lethal force.  A hammer that is not being used, is not fulfilling its purpose.  100’s of hours of target practice, tactical training and the use of brute force in all its manifestations, is wasted unless it can be used in a real situation.

I won’t go into the 100’s of cases involving excessive force, police brutality, police corruption and police incompetence, they are legendary and movies have been made about it.

In fact, a documentary called The Thin Blue Line, exposes police corruption in a case of false arrest and conviction.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thin_Blue_Line_(1988_film)

Recent events involving Chase Allan, show us just how thin that line is between the deadly force, the hammer, carried by police and a citizen pulled over in a traffic stop.

Many will defend the police, because they have a tough, dangerous and stressful job. If there is a wrongful death in the fog of war with a citizen, then we need to forgive the guilty officer. In fact, it is that concept that has given police immunity from prosecution and the consequences of their misconduct if proven that it was done in the line of duty.

I say, unless they are able to truly serve and protect, and be above making life changing mistakes or falling into corruption, then they should not be police.

The Thin Blue Line has become the thin clothes and skin of a person shot with high performance tactical ammo from a police gun.  The thin line between life and death.

Spread It!
